Baby #1 Due December 21st!!! asked:

I am going to start my wedding planning business in Oregon this year. The name is available and I am in the process of reserving it right now. As a wedding planner my focus will be on putting together a dream wedding on a small budget. Should I add to the name or leave it as is?

  5. Deenie says:

    It’s cute. I like it.

I also like “Happlily Ever Afters Event planning
and you could have a slogan like “Dreams on a Shoestring…”
:o ) Good luck with the venture..!

I think you are alienating a lot of people with the name. One, the use of the word “affordable” is actually negative, rather then positive.

Everyone wants to pay an affordable price, but they want to feel like a millionaire doing it. When it comes to a wedding, you want to stretch every dollar to the max. You want to have a 100K wedding, on a 15K budget. The word affordable doesn’t make someone feel like they have the opportunity to feel like their 15K affair just might be as fabulous as the 100K affair.

Plus, the world “affordable” is objective. What’s affordable to me, might be expensive to someone else.

In addition, don’t use the term “fairy tales” Not every bride wants that princess like, fairy tales gala. Some brides want a more modern or chic affair. If you make it sound specific to one type of wedding planning (the princess kind) you lose potential business.

Stick with name that is strong, yet make it universal.

    I like something like,

    “Elegant Affairs”

    “Simply Perfect”

“Simple Elegant Affairs by Donna (or whatever your name is)”

I agree it is a great name, I would leave it as is and then add to it on your business cards and brochures, something like “Affordable Fairy Tales, head in the cloud weddings, feet on the ground prices”

    Good luck!

  8. Steph says:

I would put ‘weddings’ on the end as the name does not really tell what the business is about. Other than that it is very good.
I like the slogan the poster above me suggested.

  9. R. B. says:

Like it, but it does limit itself to gals who want a fairy tale wedding. I’m sure you would be able and willing to plan other types of weddings as well. What about something like Simply Elegant? Or Affordable Dreams? Just one person’s opinion.

If I saw that name in the phonebook, I would not call. The word affordable, to me, looks cheap. I think cheap when I see it. Pick something that is beautiful. I love the “Fairy Tales” part. Penny-wise Fairy Tale Weddings. hm..I said affordable sounds cheap and then used the word penny…I think it’s prettier :) I would use Weddings in the name, so when people search online for it or they’re looking up something else in the phonebook, they’ll know what it is. Or don’t even put something like that (just Fairy Tale Weddings), and have your slogan be, “For the Frugal Bride” or just “Affordable!”

  11. Kerri G says:

    I think that’s a great name:)

  12. pirouette_130 says:

I also don’t like the word affordable, especially at the beginning. I would imagine an average place that coincidently came up w/ a creative name (bc I DO like the fairy tales part). You can always have the word “affordable” in an ad or in one of your windows etc. to make it known that you are. I would play a little w/ the “fairy tales” part.

  13. EM says:

It’s good but like some said affordable doesn’t attract them so instead maybe use “Inexpensive but lavish Happily ever afters”
I say happily ever afters because i know that some people don’t want to think in terms as a fairy tale you know those girls who growing up wasn’t exactly barbie girl crazy.
And it doesn’t exactly limit people to thinking you’re all about fairytale themed weddings also they see it as getting their happily ever after at a great price but rather a luxurious wedding.

  14. kiki says:

I’d change it. It sounds corny and would makes your business sound cheap.

  15. chattergurl1986 says:

I would just name it Fairy Tale Affairs
maybe include in the slogan for it about a budget or something.
    Or Fairy Tale Event Planning

  16. Honeybee says:

Sounds like the K-mart of wedding planners.

  17. Lydia says:

You’d only attract those brides (usually young) who want Cinderella themed weddings (ew). Not regular brides who just want wonderful weddings.
If I were you, I’d make the name more neutral.

  18. CBT Princess says:

Sounds cute – I like it. You can always add a slogan and other stuff to it with your marketing materials later. Something like “designing weddings for all brides from 18 to 80″ or “for Cinderella to her Fairy GodMother, we’ll make all your wedding dreams come true”
