Groom Speech

They say hindsight is a wonderful thing, but I guess I never really knew just how important groom speeches were until my fiancé and I began obsessively planning the ‘BIG’ day! If the truth be known, I just kept putting it off until a week before the wedding, when I finally woke up and realised that groom speaches were unavoidable. I started to panic big time.

The moral to this story? Don’t do what I did and make the same mistakes. Plan ahead if you can!

When you first start thinking about your groom speech it can seem like a really challenging task. As my wedding date got nearer and nearer, I considered all the angles for a funny, motivational and charming groom speech but it just wasn’t happening. So what I eventually decided to do was to sit down and just write some of the thoughts that popped into my head.

Now, believe me when I say that there are more efficient ways to plan a groom wedding toast, but this was great for kick starting my ideas.

At first it was difficult, but when I started using speech prompts and guides I soon started to jot down little bits of information about me and my bride. Where we met, how long we’ve been together, some of our most memorable moments – things like that. It really helped me to put into words the story of our relationship and what we’ve been through to get where we are now.

If I gave you some advice at this stage it would be not to worry too much about the content of your groom speech, especially groom speech jokes. The best thing to do is make a start, any kind of start well in advance of the wedding. Just begin with the notes and you will soon find yourself on the path to the perfect groom speech.
