I know that wedding cakes are made in advance, usually a few days to a week, of the wedding day. I’m wondering if there is something unique about a wedding cake recipe that differs from a typical cake recipe so that the cake stays moist for so long. We’re looking for a great chocolate wedding cake recipe if anyone as any! THANKS!

Nothing different about the cake itself just the decorations and the size of course.

Wedding cakes are often enclosed in a culinary “shrink wrap” called fondant. The fondant is, of course, edible and presents a smooth and rich surface to decorate, and keeps well. As an added benefit, it seals the cake with the in-layer frosting and prevents it from drying out.

    No
the icing is a preservative to keep it fresh
