Some couples prefer to have a green wedding because they are sincerely concerned with the environment and at the same time, they feel that this is a great way to save money. But there other couples who go for green weddings just because it is the latest trend. These couples make stupid mistakes during the affair because they do not take time to really study about eco-friendly weddings. To avoid the mistakes other couples have done before, be sure to do your homework if you intend to have an earth-friendly wedding affair. Here are ten stupid ideas you should NEVER use for green weddings. 1. Using old smelly stuff Being eco-friendly and being tacky are two different things. Just because you are encouraged to reuse old materials does not mean you can use old smelly things that would turn off (if not, disgust) the guests. If you intend to use old materials like old clothes or old household materials, be sure to wash and clean them thoroughly first. 2. Using “recycled materials” that are not really recycled Some stores would say that their items are made from recycled materials even when they are not. Make sure you only buy from reputable stores that sell real recycled items. 3. Using too many recycled paper. You may think that because you are using recycled paper, it would be all right to send ten-page invitations to 500 people. This is not true. Remember, you need to reduce consumption of materials to be able to have the right kind of green wedding. Use only a few sheets of paper for the invitation. If possible, send other invitations such as save the date, engagement party invitation, and bridal shower invitation through email. 4. Sacrificing quality Reduce, reuse and recycle but not to the point where you would be sacrificing quality. 5. Recycling food Never ever do this if you do not want your guests to end up with intestinal influenza. Serving leftover food or using leftovers as ingredients to dishes is downright unacceptable. 6. Ignoring cleanliness and sanitation Just like what was mentioned in the first tip, never sacrifice cleanliness and sanitation when reusing or recycling materials. 7. Borrowing your friend’s décor and ideas It is all right to borrow a friend’s decoration and wedding accessories but what is not okay is to replicate her entire wedding and recycle her ideas. Having a green wedding should not make you a copycat. Strive for originality. 8. Having many different venues or venues too far away from each other Driving consumes much gas and energy. Having venues located far from each other or having too many different venues can have adverse effects on our environment. 9. Not complementing the theme of the wedding Make an effort to practice earth friendly methods but do not overlook the appearance of your wedding. If the tablecloths you borrowed from a friend clashes with the motif color of your wedding, find some other green way of saving on this expense. 10. Using disposable dishes for the reception The concept of a green wedding is to minimize waste as much as possible. Having disposable items to use for the reception is the opposite of what a green wedding wants to promote. No, you do not have to be an environmental activist to justify having a green wedding. But of course, it would be good if you choose to get married on a green wedding for the right reasons and not just because you are following the latest trend. Remember, the condition of the earth is not getting any better. It is about time we do something about it. Start by saying, “I do” the green way.
